Good-bye Cicadas
The cicadas are dead and gone
And now we mourn the weather
That we cursed when it brought them.
The good times fade away
Like old Halloween and Christmas decorations
Collecting dust in the attic,
Utterly forgotten after the children have grown up
And left the home like cicadas emerging
From 17-years’ gestation under ground.
Good they never wert.
